Founded in 1994, The Christopher Columbus Education Foundation is one
of the largest Italian American Scholarship Programs in Central Ohio.
The Foundation is a 501 C(3) nonprofit corporation that jointly
supports language courses in schools and further maintains language
classes for adults, with a staff of dedicated teachers: Paola Nani
Tate, Donald Brand, and Lily Butcher.
The foundation also provides financial assistance to students
seeking advancement through education by awarding annual scholarships.
The scholarships are awarded nationwide on the basis of academic
record, financial need, an appreciation of Italian and other world cultures,
and demonstrated leadership ability. These scholarships are granted to all
qualified persons regardless of age, race, sex, creed, religion or
national origin.
Since 1994 The Christopher Columbus Education Foundation has funded
over one hundred and sixty students with educational grants.
Today, twenty Memorial Scholarships have been established in the honor
of individuals or families.
We are, as a group of people very fortunate, in that we have the
blessings of freedom, economical opportunity, and a stable democratic
government. In short, we live in America. We are, as a group of people
very industrious, hardworking, and thrifty. And as result, we have
achieved great success in the free enterprise system.
This opportunity was afforded to us in large measure by our parents,
our grandparents, or our great grandparents, who had the foresight,
courage and dedication to immigrate to this country. In appreciation of
those blessings that we enjoy as Americans and in remembering our
families who made this possible by their sacrifice, we want to give
back to the community by supporting the services of the Foundation and
further, by providing for other young people help and assistance just
as we have been helped and provided assistance. A way of giving back is
by creating a scholarship in name of a family member you wish to honor,
whose memory you wish to preserve by annual publication and further, by
an annual gift of a scholarship to a young and deserving person. This
is a scholarship that you, each year, can present to a person so that
you can experience directly the satisfaction of giving back,
remembering and appreciating.
